A Host of Services... under one Authorize.Net® Payment Gateway account:

Merchant Interface

Virtual Terminal
Authorize, process, and manage credit card transactions manually from any computer that has an Internet connection and a Web browser. The Authorize.Net Virtual Terminal is a secure, browser-based interface that enables businesses to authorize, process and manage credit card transactions from any computer that has an Internet connection and a Web browser. Virtual Terminal replaces standard authorization terminals or software, and provides the best solution for merchants who manually enter credit card transactions for mail or phone order sales.

Virtual Terminal suits businesses of all sizes because it reduces the complexity and expense normally associated with authorizing and processing credit card transactions. It's also much faster than standard dial-up authorization systems.

Businesses with an Authorize.Net account may access the Virtual Terminal through the Authorize.Net Web site using any Web browser. After logging into their Authorize.Net account using a unique user ID and a password, merchants can access the complete range of Authorize.Net services -- authorizations for purchases, credits and returns, status and activity reports, and much more.

To authorize credit card transactions, the merchant must complete an electronic form that provides the Authorize.Net system with the information it needs to complete the transaction. This information is encrypted using the latest 40 or 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 technology and is sent to an Authorize.Net host server. The server then sends the data through the authorization network to the appropriate card issuer's bank using a secure, proprietary connection. When the process is complete -- this usually takes around three seconds -- the merchant receives an authorization number, and the Authorize.Net server stores the transaction. Transactions are automatically settled each day and are typically funded within two to three business days.

Merchants can also check the status of transactions and run a variety of reports right from the Authorize.Net Merchant Interface.

For Your E-Commerce Website

Automate credit card transactions directly from your Website by integrating to the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway via one of our connection methods:

Advanced Integration Method (AIM)/Simplified Integration Method (SIM)
Authorize.Net® offers two secure online payment-processing connection methods that allow Internet-based businesses to authorize, process, and manage credit card transactions directly and automatically from an e-commerce website.

Advanced Integration Method (AIM) is the preferred Authorize.Net integration solution, and uses secure sockets layer (SSL) digital certificate technology to connect securely and directly to the Payment Gateway—achieving the highest security for the Internet connection between a merchant and the gateway. Simple Integration Method (SIM) optimizes the security, encryption, and authentication of transactions for merchants that do not have an SSL digital certificate.

AIM and SIM provide the highest levels of secure transaction infrastructure available to merchants building an e-commerce business and directly connecting that their website to the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway.

When using AIM and SIM to connect to the Payment Gateway, a customer enters purchase information (e.g., name, credit card number, etc.) into a payment form on the merchant's website. This payment form is hosted either by the merchant, or the merchant may choose to use Authorize.Net's securely hosted, customizable payment form.

When the customer clicks to submit his or her purchase information, payment information is encrypted using 128-bit SSL technology and sent to an Authorize.Net transaction server. The server sends the data through the authorization network to the appropriate card issuer's bank, using a secure, proprietary connection. When the authorization process is complete—this takes around five seconds—the customer receives an approval or decline response, and the Authorize.Net server stores the transaction. Approved transactions are automatically settled each day and are typically funded within two to three business days.

Merchants can check the status of current transactions submitted directly from their website or run reports on past transaction activity by going to the Authorize.Net Corporate site and logging into their own password-protected Merchant Interface. Online businesses also can use the Authorize.Net Virtual Terminal feature of their Merchant Interface account to enter payment information manually if customers prefer to call in their credit card information.

Add on Features:

The following add-on features can be added to your Authorize.net Gateway via your online account manager.

Fraud Detection Suite
One of the most significant concerns in the payments industry today is the increasing problem of online transaction fraud. To help merchants enhance their current security practices to meet
emerging needs, Authorize.Net has conducted extensive research and transaction behavior
analysis to determine how to best design a customizable, rules-based fraud detection solution.
The result is the new Fraud Detection Suite (FDS). Merchants that use the FDS filters and tools
proactively could prevent costly authorization and chargeback fees, and possible inventory loss, that often result from fraudulent transactions. The Fraud Detection Suite includes the following powerful filters, tools and other functionality:

  • Five customizable filters designed to assist merchants in identifying suspicious
    transactions:
  • Amount Filter – Allows merchants to set lower and upper transaction amount
thresholds, restricting high-risk transactions often used to “test” the validity of
    credit card numbers.
  • Velocity Filter – Limits the total number of transactions received per hour,
preventing high-volume attacks common with fraudulent transactions.
  • Suspicious Transaction Filter – Detects highly suspicious transactions using
proprietary identification criteria and transaction behavior analysis.
  • Shipping-Billing Mismatch Filter – Identifies high-risk transactions with
different shipping and billing addresses, potentially indicating purchases made
    using a stolen credit card.
  • Transaction IP Velocity Filter – Identifies excessive transactions received from
the same IP address per hour, isolating suspicious activity from a single source.

Two powerful Internet Protocol (IP) address administration tools:

  • Authorized AIM IP Addresses – Allows merchants that submit Advanced
Integration Method (AIM) transactions exclusively to establish a list of IP
addresses that are authorized to submit transactions for their account.
  • IP Address Blocking – Allows merchants to block transactions from certain IP
    addresses.

Other features include:

  • Filter actions allow merchants to control how suspicious transactions are
processed, including the ability to hold a transaction for manual review before or
    after authorization.
  • Merchants can opt to receive email notification each time a transaction triggers
    one or more filters.
  • Ability to customize the response customers see in their browser window when
their transaction is held for review.
  • Quick reporting tools allow merchants to view transactions held for review, as
well as transactions that have triggered an individual filter in the past 30 days.
  • A search tool allows merchants to perform searches for suspicious transactions as
    well as download search results.

Verified by Visa and MasterCard® SecureCode™
Authorize.Net has partnered with CardinalCommerce to offer your merchants a premium solution for implementing cardholder authentication programs such as Verified by Visa and MasterCard® SecureCode™. Using a merchant plug-in, merchants can quickly take advantage of these powerful tools, which are already integrated with the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway!

Using separate but similar authentication processes, Verified by Visa and MasterCard
SecureCode use a cardholder identification code, similar to a personal identification number
(PIN) used at an automated teller machine (ATM), to authenticate enrolled cardholders while they are in the process of making a purchase.

Merchants that offer cardholder authentication programs provide payment authorization and
increased transaction protection for their customers while receiving chargeback and fraud liability protection from Visa and MasterCard.
